WORK THIS WEEK
Been pretty busy over at Baseball Prospectus lately.
We’re doing a mock arbitration series that is absolutely fascinating, if you care about the internal machinations of baseball. (If you don’t, I certainly won’t hold it against you.) The series into by Atlanta Braves assistant GM John Copolella is fascinating and free, as is the first case: Chase Headley.
For my part, I argued the player side of Jason Hammel’s case against my colleague Doug Thorburn, who represented the Orioles. Did I get Hammel the $8.25 million he requested? Read on, O seeker of knowledge! (P.S.: No, he didn’t.)
Also, the second installment of Top Team Cookbooks went live.  Click here for part one; both halves are free.
And if you figure out what “CHICKEN Hmmmmmm” is,  please let me know.

WORK THIS WEEK
Not really work, per se, but it sounds better than “fun.”
Punk Hits: “So You’ve Decided to Join the American League!" A pamphlet for the Astros, inspired, like all good things, by The Simpsons. Subscribers only.

PRODcast 32: The Sanford Koufax Episode.  Did you know Sandy Koufax was born “Sanford Braun”? I did not.

I discussed my Top 10 Films of 2012 with the lovely and talented Bill Hanstock over at Progressive Boink.

I did a Top 20 Musical Things post too, a while back.

And lastly, while I didn’t have anything to do with it, I’m thrilled about the fandor/keyframe rebranding/redesign. It looks awesome.

WORK THIS WEEK

I guess it’s all baseball this week. More film and music stuff in the offing, though!

  • Productive Outs PRODcast 25 with Grant Brisbee (McCovey Chronicles, SB Nation) and NAILS.
  • Brian Science, wherein I try to determine why people think a very successful general manager is a complete idiot.
  • I did a chat at Baseball Prospectus. It’s mostly about baseball, but there’s some other silliness there too.
  • Oh, I guess there’s one non-baseball thing. The nice people at OMG Vinyl are giving away a copy of the forthcoming Kowloon Walled City record. You can enter here

My baseball people might be interested in listening to this. It’s the latest (#28) “Up and In” podcast from Baseball Prospectus. I’m not a big podcast guy, but I make it a point to listen to every episode of “Up and In.” These guys are incredibly knowledgable about baseball, and especially minor-league ball and high-school and college ballplayers. Also, Goldstein is an old Chicago punker and knows his music. (Bear Claw was the featured musical guest on the last podcast. Rad, right?) They also love to talk food and booze. Highly recommended.

Also, they field a question from me in this one. If you only want to hear that, you can ffwd to 29:00 and hear them make fun of me. Goldstein also mentions Kowloon Walled City, and threatens to play Snailface on a future episode.

Listen!
